Description
A diagnostic codelist developed to support identification of people with Type 2 diabetes.
Methodology
1) The NHS Data Migration Workbench was used to map version 2 Read codes from an existing diabetes codelist (derived in CPRD) to CTV3 codes, searching up and down the hierarchy at each stage. 2) These codes were then checked against existing Opencodelists diabetes codelists in CTV3 format (opensafely-type-2-diabetes-2020-06-29, opensafely-diabetes-unknown-type-2020-06-29 and opensafely-diabetes-exeter-group-2020-07-06), which identified two additional diagnostic codes. Several codes present in other codelists, e.g. "diabetes screening invitation" were discarded or re-classified as non-diagnostic codes. I have categorised codes mentioning "non-insulin dependent diabetes" as type 2 diabetes, given that all type 1 diabetes requires insulin treatment by definition. By the same logic, codes referring to dietary or oral treatment have been categorised as type 2. These steps both added extra codes to this list.
