Description
The SNOMED code lists were created by compiling codes from the Quality and Outcomes Framework lists (e.g. QOF Dementia Cluster) and the NHS Digital Primary Care Domain Refsets. (e.g. for Parkinson's etc).
Methodology
Context
The codelist is for use in a neurodegenerative disease burden study (Bristol/ Edinburgh/ Cambridge) to categorise dementias by subtypes.
Inclusion/exclusion criteria
Codes indicative of diagnosis of Alzheimer's dementia were selected. Shrip browser was used to search for additional codes. Comparison (diff) was made to the NHS ref set for AD (DEMALZ_COD refset).
Borderline cases
NB. This codelist contains "in remission" codes, therefore, it is not suitable for identifying individuals with "active" Alzheimer's disease (e.g. those suitable for drug treatments). This decision was made because individuals coded as "in remission" should still be counted towards prevalence (as remission does not indicate resolution). Posterior cortical atrophy syndrome (715574002) was added manually as is considered a subtype of AD.
