Description

Identifies COPD exacerbation hospital admissions.

Methodology

This codelist is part of a validated algorithm to identify chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation (see reference). COPD exacerbation in secondary care is identified if any of the following criteria are met: 1) COPD exacerbation specific code (this codelist) in any position. 2) COPD diagnosis code (COPD secondary care codelist) in first position. 3) Lower respiratory tract infection code (lower respiratory tract infection - secondary care codelist) in first position and a COPD diagnosis code in any position.
