Description

This codelist aims to identify the prescribing of semaglutide products which are licenced for the treatment of obesity.

Methodology

Search strategy Semaglutide AMPs under dm+d category Semaglutide (VTM) 777514008 were reviewed and considered for inclusion.

Licencing information was interpreted from the relevant Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC).

If all of the AMPs under a VMP related to the same indication, then the VMP code was also considered for inclusion in the codelist. If the VMP code contained AMPs which had different indications, then the VMP code was excluded.

This led to Semaglutide 0.5mg/0.37ml solution for injection 1.5ml pre-filled disposable devices (VMP) 36491011000001101 being excluded. In August 2025 this code accounted for approximately 1% of all dispensed semaglutide, or 14% of dispensed semaglutide which is beneath that VMP. So, although this does reduce the sensitivity of this codelist, the impact is relatively small.
