Inclusion/exclusion criteria
We only ophthalmic preparations relevant to management of allergic conjunctivitis in GP and Community Pharmacies : Antazoline (VTM) and all ophthalmic (eye drop) formulations. Antazoline with xylometazoline (VTM) and all ophthalmic (eye drop) combination formulations. We excluded non-ophthalmic formulations (2% ointments) : Antazoline 2% ointment (VMP) 4457011000001106 and Wasp-Eze Insect Bite 2% ointment (SSL International Plc) (AMP) 4449811000001106 Borderline cases Antazoline and the combination of antazoline with xylometazoline were included because they are indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. Any non-ophthalmic formulations (where present) or products intended for other indications were excluded.
Sensitivity vs specificity
The codelist was designed to be specific, aiming to capture prescribing of ophthalmic antazoline-containing products for allergic conjunctivitis while excluding medicines used via other routes or for unrelated conditions.

Codelists are developed by a broad community of users for individual study purposes, which may or may not meet the needs of other studies. They should not be thought of as universal definitions of a particular condition.
We don't offer any guarantees about what they do or don't identify. Users should carefully check that any codelist meets their needs, and seek clinical input where appropriate.
* dm+d codelists can be downloaded with codes mapped to changed VMPs included - this is the default for an OpenSAFELY project. See the documentation on keeping codelists up to date for more details.
