Context
Pharmacy First – allergic conjunctivitis.
Inclusion/exclusion criteria
We included: Epinastine (VTM) – SNOMED CT ID 775783007 and Epinastine 500 micrograms/mL eye drops (VMP) – ophthalmic formulation only.
Borderline cases
No major borderline cases were identified for epinastine. Inclusion was restricted to the licensed ophthalmic formulation used for allergic conjunctivitis. As epinastine is only available in eye drop form in routine clinical use, no additional route-based exclusions were required.
Sensitivity vs specificity
The codelist was designed to be specific, aiming to capture prescribing of epinastine eye drops for allergic conjunctivitis within the GP pathway while excluding any non-ophthalmic or irrelevant formulations.
Additional information Epinastine is a topical ophthalmic antihistamine indicated for allergic conjunctivitis. Including the VTM and corresponding VMP ensures complete capture of prescribing while maintaining high specificity for GP–relevant eye drop use.
