Fosfomycin 3g granules for oral solution sachets (VMP)
Borderline cases
We excluded injectables and 500 mg Fosfomycin .These exclusions were made to ensure the codelist reflects real-world community prescribing practice and avoids inclusion of hospital-oriented or atypical dosing formulations.
Sensitivity vs specificity
The codelist was designed to prioritise specificity for community oral fosfomycin prescribing, focusing on the standard 3 g oral sachet formulation used in UK primary care, while excluding alternative or non-standard formulations that are not routinely used in Pharmacy First pathways.
Additional information
Fosfomycin use in UK primary care is predominantly limited to a single-dose 3 g oral sachet regimen. Inclusion of this formulation ensures accurate capture of prescribing for uncomplicated urinary tract infection management within community settings.
