About

Description

Lodoxamide

Methodology

Context Pharmacy First – allergic conjunctivitis. Inclusion/exclusion criteria We included both Lodoxamide (VTM) – SNOMED CT ID 776561002 and Lodoxamide 0.1% eye drops (VMP) and all corresponding ophthalmic eye drop products. Only ophthalmic (eye drop) formulations . No systemic formulations were included.

Borderline cases Lodoxamide was included because it is licensed for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis in adults and children aged 4 years and over, with a recommended dose of one drop four times daily. As the codelist is intended to identify treatments for allergic conjunctivitis, ophthalmic Lodoxamide preparations were considered relevant and included. Non-ophthalmic formulations were not applicable.

Sensitivity vs specificity The codelist was designed to be specific, capturing prescriptions for ophthalmic Lodoxamide used to treat allergic conjunctivitis while minimizing inclusion of medications prescribed for other indications or by other routes of administration.

Additional information Lodoxamide is a mast cell stabiliser licensed for allergic conjunctivitis. Both the Virtual Therapeutic Moiety (VTM) and ophthalmic Virtual Medicinal Product (VMP) concepts were included to maximise capture of relevant eye drop prescriptions while maintaining specificity .

Codelists are developed by a broad community of users for individual study purposes, which may or may not meet the needs of other studies. They should not be thought of as universal definitions of a particular condition.

We don't offer any guarantees about what they do or don't identify. Users should carefully check that any codelist meets their needs, and seek clinical input where appropriate.

* dm+d codelists can be downloaded with codes mapped to changed VMPs included - this is the default for an OpenSAFELY project. See the documentation on keeping codelists up to date for more details.
