Inclusion/exclusion criteria

We included oral tablet and oral suspension formulations of pivmecillinam relevant to community and Pharmacy First prescribing, including: Pivmecillinam 200mg tablets (VMP) and Pivmecillinam 200mg/5ml oral suspension (VMP)

Borderline cases

Pivmecillinam 200mg/5ml oral suspension was included to ensure capture of prescribing among patients unable to swallow tablets, including paediatric populations and individuals with swallowing difficulties.

Sensitivity vs specificity

The codelist was designed to maximise sensitivity for oral pivmecillinam prescribing in primary care by including both tablet and oral suspension formulations relevant to community prescribing pathways.

Additional information

The codelist focuses on oral community-prescribed pivmecillinam formulations used within UK primary care and Pharmacy First settings, particularly for urinary tract infection (Acute uncomplicated cystitis,...) management(https://bnf.nice.org.uk/drugs/pivmecillinam-hydrochloride/#indications-and-dose).
